Earlier this year, Lysaght achieved 100 years as an Australian manufacturer, and will celebrate this significant milestone by expanding the Lysaght Inspiration Design Awards to include an exciting new category for 2021.

In recognition of the CUSTOM ORB® corrugated profile – a flagship product and the first that Lysaght manufactured in Australia – a new category to further shine a spotlight on this much loved profile has been announced.

The popular Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards (LIDA) are now in their fourth year, with the addition of the CUSTOM ORB® category set to push the total prize pool to new heights with cash prizes of $55,000 to be won.

The Awards are open to Australian-based architects and design professionals, and as per previous years, will include a category to recognise the work of the country’s many talented architectural and design students.

Having first been held in 2018 as a means to showcase innovative projects that incorporated LYSAGHT® steel building products, interest in LIDA has grown each year, with the 2021 instalment expected to again attract dozens of high quality submissions.

Lysaght National Sales, Marketing and Innovation Manager, Matt Lloyde, said that the 2021 Awards would be particularly special, given that the company was celebrating 100 years of Australian manufacturing.

“It’s always exciting to begin receiving submissions for LIDA, and to see the new ways and combinations in which architects and building designers have used LYSAGHT® steel building products to fill their briefs,” Matt said.

“The quality of entrants never disappoints and I know that this trend will continue in 2021. Also, to commemorate Lysaght’s 100 year anniversary as a local manufacturer, we’re delighted to introduce the CUSTOM ORB® category and cannot wait to see how this profile is showcased.”

In deciding the category winners, Award nominations will be evaluated by a panel of Lysaght technical and product design experts. The 2021 competition categories include:

• Celebrating CUSTOM ORB®: acknowledges the use of CUSTOM ORB® corrugated profile.
• Commercial and Industrial Design: celebrating design in public, sporting, institutional, educational, retail and office buildings.
• Residential Design: recognising design in new houses, multi-residential buildings, alterations, additions, heritage, restoration and aged care dwellings.
• Regional Projects: acknowledging building design in regional Australia.
• Student Design: open to all architectural or design students currently enrolled at Australian universities, as well as recent graduates.

The 2021 awards attract a $10,000 cash prize for each of the four open awards categories. The overall 2021 LIDA accolade will be awarded to the category winner judged as showcasing the finest example of design featuring LYSAGHT® steel building products, and will be presented an additional $10,000 cash and complimentary annual membership to the Australian Institute of Architects.

The student category winner will receive a $5,000 cash prize. All winning projects will also feature in the 2022 edition of Lysaght’s annual ‘Design Inspiration’ publication and will be promoted through Lysaght’s social and other media communications.

The entry period for the awards spans from 2 August, 2021 until 15 October, 2021, and are open to projects completed between 1 January, 2016, and 30 June, 2021 that clearly display a significant proportion of LYSAGHT® steel building products.
